The Chalis Sledge Henderson Scholarship was founded in 2011 when Chalis decided to begin a fund that provided scholarships to students at her church, Oasis of Hope Ministries. Chalis wanted a way to give back to the ministry which had helped her develop and succeed academically, socially, and, most importantly, spiritually.

The first scholarship was presented to Philip Harris, Jr. in the amount of $250 in August 2012. Philip was a senior at North Carolina A&T State University. Funding for the first scholarship was provided by Chalis D. Sledge. To prepare for the next academic school year, the foundation hosted a fundraiser that included area churches and community leaders. The first fundraiser raised over $1000 for scholarships! In August 2013, two scholarships were presented to Philip Harris, Jr and Sinteil Crews in the amount of $350 each. In 2014, three $500 scholarships were awarded, which included two to seniors at Warren County High School. In 2015, two $500 scholarships were awarded. To celebrate 5 years of service, two $5,000 scholarships were awarded in 2016.

The Chalis Sledge Henderson Scholarship is awarded to graduating seniors of Warren County High School and college students who are members of Oasis of Hope Ministries. Students must demonstrate outstanding service to his/her educational institution, local community, and church.
