Executive Director

Chalis is a native of Warren County and currently resides in Granville county.  She has always had a heart for community service and students. She graduated from Warren County High School in 2007 and pursued a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. As a highly involved student leader, she accomplished much success at UNCC. After graduating Cum Laude from UNCC, she studied Student Affairs Administration and received her Master of Arts degree in May, 2013 from Michigan State University. While at MSU, she travelled to Athens, Greece and Rome, Italy where she studied Dimensions of Cultural Leadership with Loyola University Chicago. She is a 2019 graduate of the Rural Economic Development Institute hosted by the NC Rural Center.   


In 2011, she founded the Chalis D. Sledge (now Chalis Sledge Henderson) Scholarship Foundation and has awarded $20,000 in scholarships to students who engage in service to their community, church, and institution of higher learning.


Chalis is also the Founder of the Redefine Philanthropy campaign, a social campaign with a vision to change the face of philanthropy. The mission of the campaign is to inspire and empower individual and family philanthropy.

As Executive Director of Turning Point Community Development Corporation, her goal is to see this organization become a hub of resources that challenges our community to grow and reach its maximum potential. One of her favorite quotes is “no one reaches low standards." She hopes to continue to be a motivating force in the community and provide support to those who wish to reach their highest potential.


Community Outreach Coordinator

Kate is originally from Greensboro, NC and currently lives in Raleigh. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from North Carolina State University in May 2021, where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication with a concentration in Public Relations. She also completed minors in Journalism and Psychology. Kate joined Turning Point CDC as an intern in March 2021 and enjoyed it so much, she transitioned to full-time in July 2021! During her internship, she completed an 8-week training series called Future Rural Nonprofit Leaders.


Kate has a passion for community work and began volunteering at a young age. She loves storytelling and is grateful to incorporate this into her job — whether it be through our newsletters, social posts, media coverage, or connecting with other awesome organizations. She also loves photography and snapping pictures for Turning Point's social media pages is one of her favorite parts of the job. She's excited to be working with an organization that is dedicated to providing important resources for the rural NC community and thankful for this opportunity!



Kimiko Williams is a native of Nottoway, Virginia. She is a 1997 graduate of Virginia State University (Home of the Trojans) and a 2013 graduate of Grand Canyon University where she earned her Master's in Early Childhood Education. Kimiko serves as the Director of Child Care Resource & Referral of FGV Smart Start. Kimiko enjoys traveling to the beach year-round, spending time with family and friends, going to the movies and cooking. Kimiko is married to Maurice Williams and has one son. She resides in Warren County, North Carolina. 



Carlton J. Terry III is a native of Warren County. He teaches history at Henderson Collegiate High School and is a Minister at Universal Mission Apostolic Church in Warrenton, NC. He has a passion for the development of people through education. He is deeply committed to the economic and educational empowerment of communities in Warren, Vance, Granville, and Franklin counties.


Board Member

Camille Johnson is a native of New York and currently resides in Vance County. She is currently the branch manager of Woodforest National Bank in Henderson, NC. Camille considers herself to be a passionate community servant. she has the ability to motivate and inspire. She takes pride in engaging in community outreach.  Camille is pleased to work with Turning Point CDC knowing that she is involved with an organization that benefits the community in which she works and lives.


Board Member

Dr. Braxton M. Henderson is a native of Memphis, TN. He received his bachelor's degree from the University of Pittsburgh with a major in Biological Sciences. He earned his Doctorate of Dental Medicine from the University of Pittsburgh and completed extensive training in a 3-year postdoctoral anesthesia residency program at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Dr. Henderson founded Southern Office-Based Anesthesia to increase access to high quality and comfortable dental care for all patients. Dr. Henderson currently resides in Granville county and enjoys running, playing basketball, traveling, and barbecuing


Board Member

Donnamarie Newkirk is a native of Massachusetts and currently resides in Vance County. She is adamantly impassioned to see children have the services, safety, and educational opportunities which will help them become the leaders they can be. She earned a Master's in Organizational Management from Forbes School of Business at Ashford in 2015 and a Bachelors of Sociology/Social Welfare and Justice from the University of New Mexico in 2010. She is looking forward to utilizing her experiences God has blessed her with as well as her past education and vocational knowledge with Turning Point CDC to raise the bar for Vance and surrounding counties' children and families.
