Executive Director

Chalis is a native of Warren County and currently resides in Granville county.  She has always had a heart for community service and students. She graduated from Warren County High School in 2007 and pursued a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. As a highly involved student leader, she accomplished much success at UNCC. After graduating Cum Laude from UNCC, she studied Student Affairs Administration and received her Master of Arts degree in May, 2013 from Michigan State University. While at MSU, she travelled to Athens, Greece and Rome, Italy where she studied Dimensions of Cultural Leadership with Loyola University Chicago. She is a 2019 graduate of the Rural Economic Development Institute hosted by the NC Rural Center.   


In 2011, she founded the Chalis D. Sledge (now Chalis Sledge Henderson) Scholarship Foundation and has awarded $20,000 in scholarships to students who engage in service to their community, church, and institution of higher learning.


Chalis is also the Founder of the Redefine Philanthropy campaign, a social campaign with a vision to change the face of philanthropy. The mission of the campaign is to inspire and empower individual and family philanthropy.

As Executive Director of Turning Point Community Development Corporation, her goal is to see this organization become a hub of resources that challenges our community to grow and reach its maximum potential. One of her favorite quotes is “no one reaches low standards." She hopes to continue to be a motivating force in the community and provide support to those who wish to reach their highest potential.


Program Manager

Janelle was raised in Oxford, NC. She graduated from Granville Early College High School in 2014 where she obtained a high school diploma as well as credits towards an Associate’s degree. After graduation she continued her education at North Carolina Central University where she majored in dietetics. In 2017, Janelle graduated honors with a Bachelor’s of Science in Foods and Nutrition. During her tenure at NCCU she completed more than 120 hours of health-based community service. Janelle was awarded Most Outstanding Nutrition Student as well as Certificates of Achievement.

Janelle has a broad range of experience throughout the community but primarily focuses on health education. After becoming vegetarian in 2011 her interest sparked towards wholesome eating. She enjoys educating the community with tips and skills to sustain a healthier lifestyle. Janelle has completed multiple education seminars for all ages ranging from adolescents to seniors. She has experience with clinical work as well as diet counseling. Janelle has worked closely with Dietitians and patients who have needed help with weight loss, weight gain, diabetes, and hypertension.

As Program Manager of Turning Point Community Development Cooperation Janelle leads and manages all of our community programs and supports our team of volunteers and other staff. 



Kimiko Williams is a native of Nottoway, Virginia. She is a 1997 graduate of Virginia State University (Home of the Trojans) and a 2013 graduate of Grand Canyon University where she earned her Master's in Early Childhood Education. Kimiko serves as the Director of Child Care Resource & Referral of FGV Smart Start. Kimiko enjoys traveling to the beach year-round, spending time with family and friends, going to the movies and cooking. Kimiko is married to Maurice Williams and has one son. She resides in Warren County, North Carolina. 



Carlton J. Terry III is a native of Warren County. He teaches history at Henderson Collegiate High School and is a Minister at Universal Mission Apostolic Church in Warrenton, NC. He has a passion for the development of people through education. He is deeply committed to the economic and educational empowerment of communities in Warren, Vance, Granville, and Franklin counties.



Willine Isom is a retired accountant with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics/Accounting. She recently retired from North Carolina Central University as Director of Student Accounting. Willine is an active member of Oasis of Hope Ministries and serves as the Coordinator of the youth ministry serving ages 10-23. She also serves as a minister. She enjoys teaching and preaching the good news of Jesus Christ. Willine has served in many areas of the church and community.  She is a mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. 


Board Member

Dr. Braxton M. Henderson is a native of Memphis, TN. He received his bachelor's degree from the University of Pittsburgh with a major in Biological Sciences. He earned his Doctorate of Dental Medicine from the University of Pittsburgh and completed extensive training in a 3-year postdoctoral anesthesia residency program at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Dr. Henderson founded Southern Office-Based Anesthesia to increase access to high quality and comfortable dental care for all patients. Dr. Henderson currently resides in Granville county and enjoys running, playing basketball, traveling, and barbecuing


Board Member

Donnamarie Newkirk is a native of Massachusetts and currently resides in Vance County. She is adamantly impassioned to see children have the services, safety, and educational opportunities which will help them become the leaders they can be. She earned a Master's in Organizational Management from Forbes School of Business at Ashford in 2015 and a Bachelors of Sociology/Social Welfare and Justice from the University of New Mexico in 2010. She is looking forward to utilizing her experiences God has blessed her with as well as her past education and vocational knowledge with Turning Point CDC to raise the bar for Vance and surrounding counties' children and families.
